Soho Basin is new, yet it's like the first days of popular skiing in the 1930's, when it was an adventure and a privilege to discover new runs.
Soho Basin is situated in two high alpine basins at the head of Soho Creek. Set amongst the Southern Alps of New Zealand it overlooks the spectacular scenery of Queenstown and the Wakatipu Basin with amazing alpine views beyond to the peaks of the main divide.
Soho Basin boasts 264 Hectares of skiable terrain with a preponderance of novice and intermediate terrain while offering a good balance of advanced options.
The skiing and riding terrain starts at 1425m and goes up to 1925m allowing 500m of vertical drop. These basins face predominantly South and receive significant snowfalls and hold the snow in crisp condition for long periods of winter and spring meaning consistent snow and a longer season.
Soho Basin is one of the Southern Lakes hidden jewels that is full of snow, sun and fun making for an unforgettable experience in either winter or summer.
Soho Basin has been kept a secret for 85 years. Now it's your chance to be a skiing and riding pioneer in these mountains.
Pristine powder awaits you with fresh snow across the basin offering up off piste skiing or riding like you've never experienced it before.
Soho Basin is an exclusive experience you won't find anywhere else, and this season only a lucky few will get to discover that with very limited bookings available. So don't miss this once in-a-lifetime opportunity to pioneer New Zealand's newest and most unique snow adventure.Booking details

Guest and staff safety is our number one consideration at Soho Basin.
Our staff are chosen for their qualifications, experience and knowledge to ensure our operations run safely and smoothly.
Our terrain is managed as a ski area, while all runs are off piste and ungroomed our terrain safety management plan is implemented to minimise hazards and operates to industry best practice.
Our cat skiing patrollers travel and ski amongst our guests and provide advice and assistance to ensure an enjoyable and safe experience.
Each day begins with a comprehensive safety briefing and provision of safety equipment. Our staff run over the safety around the snow cats, loading and unloading procedures as well as our terrain and guest safety management and how the day will run.
Our staff are all highly experienced and trained to ensure everyone has an enjoyable and safe experience.
As our operational base is immediately adjacent to the Cardrona Alpine Resort, self-drive is easy option. Just come up to the top of the access road and turn off to the left at the sign for Soho Basin. Parking is available for Soho Basin guests at our base area.

Soho and Willow Basins are located at the head of Soho Creek. The land is part of the Glencoe Station Crown Pastoral Lease. This lease is held by Soho Property Limited (SPL). This affords the land similar status as private land where by the leasee has the right to exclude public from the property.
Soho Ski Area Limited (SSAL) hold a Crown Recreation Permit for the development of a ski area and all activities associated with this including Heli and cat skiing on the top part of the Soho and Willow Basins, with the approval of Soho Property Limited. SSAL are responsible for the safety and associated liability of persons whom they take onto the permit area and by default other public that use the area.
SSAL recognise that both the Soho Basin and Willow Basin have been used to varying degrees as a readily accessible are for ski touring, and is also being used commercially by education providers and alpine activity companies.
While SSAL does not wish to exclude public access at this time it does intend to exercise a degree of management of the area and access to it, to ensure any public accessing the area have assumed full responsibility and liability for their presence and any consequential outcomes that may arise as a result of their presence in the area.
The mechanism SSAL will use to enable this is by way of a requirement that all persons wishing to access the Soho and Willow Basins complete a registration and assumption of risk and liability form.
SSAL has set up a drop box at its base of operations.
Each person registering will be required to make a donation of $5 per day of access to Lakes District Air Rescue Trust (LDART). This can be dropped in the honesty box at Soho Basin Base, located at the entry point as you leave the Cardrona car park.
To enable SSAL to operate without any encumbrances of public users the following parameters of access and behaviour are to be observed by all public users of these areas.
Avoid use of the areas SSAL are using for its Cat skiing operations as far as possible.
Respect the desire for SSAL customers to have an unencumbered experience i.e. Please do not poach lines, do not stop or congregate at the cat pick up points, remain as scarce as you possibly can.
Please respect that there is no right of public access onto this land. We would expect that the touring community will ensure these parameters are observed to enable continued access to these beautiful basins.
Tourers should never travel alone, each person should have an avalanche beacon, probe and shovel and know how to use them. Be prepared and carry appropriate equipment.
